2023 recap

2023 was an unusual year for myself and my family. We became first-time homeowners in January and I lost my job of 4 years in March. The literal day after my last day, I was diagnosed with ADHD after trying to get an appointment for months. Over the course of starting my own company and working outside for the rest of the year, I ended up losing about thirty pounds.

In 2024, the plan is to start doing yoga and more intentional stretching so that my body can continue safely (and, ideally, painlessly) being active. I'll be turning 40 in 2024 and I've been reflecting and thinking a lot about what the future holds. It’s very important to me to be able to adventure with my kids now and well into the future.

Continuing on with the recap…

Below, you'll find some things I enjoyed in 2023. They may or may not have been released in 2023.

Books

Notes

As usual, I recall starting the year strong. I knocked back several books early on and then stopped reading altogether after a few months.

Movies

Notes

The same thing happened with movies as it did with books. I watched 5 movies in January and then none until April.

Aftersun packed an incredible emotional punch for me given that it's about a dad and daughter relationship. I definitely want to watch it again soon.

Music

Notes

I rediscovered Flume and Cashmere Cat about midway through this year and went on a rampage listening to lots of electronic and hyperpop.

The end

That’s really it for 2023.

In 2024, let’s keep making ourselves better and work together to build up our communities along the way.
